Watford arrived early at Lammas Park on February 1st, and got off to a fast start in the Winter Warmer handicap match against Ealing, on a bright, cloudy, cold morning.
Round One to Watford, winning two out of three first-round doubles matches, with only Annie Kasparian and Gill Humberstone scoring for the home team. Round Two, with six singles matches, gave Ealing the lead with four wins to two, notably Charlie Sale 7-6 over Nick Archer (-2) and Man of the Match Fred. White-Overton embarking on his run of three straight singles wins, including wins over Nick in round 3, and Jason Carley (0) in Round 4, to give Ealing the match win 11-10 over a very competitive Watford team.
Naomi Alvarez, Annie Kasparian, the two Davids Whitestone and Graham all pitched in with wins, with only Ron Carter drawing a blank with two losses from two. Conditions got brighter and much windier as the match progressed, affecting the run of the balls somewhat, but still some great shots were played.
