Ealing Croquet Club

An Ealing team of Harry Midgley, Roger Mayhew, Peter Alsbury and Simon Tuke made the trip to the south coast on May 16th to visit the hallowed portals of Sussex County Croquet Club.

Winning all three games in the morning session put us in a strong position at lunchtime, and we were able to carry this through in the afternoon, despite our hosts’ efforts to nobble us by serving a delicious lunch.

Harry came from a long way back with his opponent for peg and peg, only to see what would probably have been the last shot hit, and losing -4. Simon clinched the vital point soon afterwards, shamefacedly using his remaining bisque to complete a straight rover peel.

Roger’s opponent made six hoops after time was called, but needed a peel to draw level. +1T. Peter also prevailed on time, but by a more comfortable margin.

Despite the rather chilly conditions in the afternoon, it was a most enjoyable day, made even more so by a 6-1 scoreline – and a great start to our U League campaign.
